Yamakasi: Rendezvous II

DC and Blane attended the indoor training run by members from Yamakasi (Chau, Williams, Yann and Laurent), along with French legends Seb Goudot and Thomas. The session was set up by Parkour Generations and turned out to be yet another great milestone where a number of traceurs trained together under one roof, picking up knowledge from people who have been involved in the art of movement for more than a decade.

The training ended of with a Q&A session, where everyone got to ask the Yamakasi guys questions. It went off quite well and I can recommend anyone to watch the follow three youtube clips for an insight as to how it went:

Pawa Netherlands : Lynx

(Write up done by Jin. View's Jin's blogsite for extra information and pictures: jinetics.blogspot.com)

On the 7th of June Owen and myself flew to Holland to teach at a Pawa workshop on the invitation of Philip (Chaos), a PAWA representative of Netherlands recognizable by his latest video, 'seamless transitions'. We stayed at his house enjoying the immense hospitality of him and his parents till the Monday when we flew back. The PAWA workshop was held on Saturday with around 160 people in attendance out of the 220 that had signed for it, but the weather forecast scared many away. Along with Owen, me and the Dutch instructors were 7 of the French including Karim, Ramon, Kazuma and Bruno. Seb Goudot had a family birthday to attend :).

We were given around 20 people each to lead in groups with the French staying at certain spots to teach as well, while we walked (or ran) our group from spot to spot. The language barrier for some of the French made it hard for them to teach, but it wasn't so bad. Kazuma lead the warm up outside and there were 8 spots, all outside except one in the gym. Philip managed to get permission from police and shop keepers to let this happen.

I think a lot of people were a bit surprised when they discovered that there would not be as much playing as they thought and most would be drills and strength work. At the beginning with my group there was some reluctance ut people got more involved later on, a few much more than others. I liked at the end when Karim, one of the original traceurs with David and Sebastien commented that if it was real training, they would not be walking out like they were, ie) without pain.

I think my group were pushed and I hope they enjoyed the training and took something from it, I really enjoyed teaching them.

Thanks a lot to Philip and his parents, and I hope to see you, Brian and Marvin in the UK soon.

Team Event: PSP "The Way", Workshops

This tour was set up by the agency Eyes Wide Open, who grouped together some impressive traceurs across the globe in order to help pass on their knowledge to the huge groups of new traceurs who attended the events in Germany. TT were one of the groups who were invited to help with the coaching and we all had a great time.

It is very clear that Germany has a huge parkour following at the moment and we were glad to be a part of this first stage in their growth. Some immense raw talent was seen by some of the participants even as young as 14 years old...

Team Event: 007, Fashion Show

Luke, Blane and DC by the 007 ice sculpture

It's not often that you get asked to take part in a glitzy fashion show, but to be able to do it for a good cause and raise 10,000 for the Christian Clarke Cancer Reasearch Fund, was an absolute honour.

TT members Blane, DC and Luke packed bags and headed up north to Chris Clarke's home town: Bury, just west of Manchester.

Extracts from an article written by Lindsay Southall for www.thisislancashire.co.uk
"Chris died in January 2006, aged 17, from a brain tumour detected after he began complaining of headaches in May 2005 while on study leave for his A-level exams at Holy Cross College. Despite undergoing urgent brain surgery and intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy over the following six months, the popular teenager died on January 16.

His mother Karen Clarke has now made a vow to fulfil one last promise to her son by setting up the Christopher Clarke Cancer Research Fund in a bid to help improve treatment for the disease and stop more young people from suffering in the same way.

Having already raised more than 10,000 since Chris's death, that total was doubled with the For Your Eyes Only fashion and casino night at the Elizabethan Suite.

A 40-minute film of the night will be premiered in three weeks time before going on sale to anybody who attended."

Team Event: Lisses, France

TT set off to have the very first official group training since Alex and Andi joined the team, and what better way than to do it than over in Lisses, France.

We were all very excited to get the opportunity to train together for the first time as the new team in the very place Parkour started out those many years ago. We were even luckier to have met up with some of the great names in Parkour who showed us a few of their training methods and helped us improve on our own techniques.

Bonny joined us to photograph our journey and here are the results: Click Here

Performance: Brick Lane, London

TT was called up by Momentum Events to perform live to an audience of around 150 guests at a private function in London. DC, Rip and Luke attended the event which went off an absolute storm with the guest of honour even joining in on a trained brief run through our fantastic obstacle course.

Of course we were not leaving the venue without actually throwing in a brief 30-minute workshop for all the kids who were there, which went off a treat. The evening also saw break-dancers, singers, sushi bar, graffiti wall and a great atmosphere all being soaked up! Images available as and when we get them from the official photographer.

The following is a testimonial from the mother of our guest of honour:

"The Parkour Runners were a surprise for our son and they were more than just a surprise. They were a huge hit. With Josh and with his friends. They added to the party in a new and exciting way. Their skills were put on show as they ran and jumped off balconies and pillars and walls, and then they shared this incredible talent with the kids (and a few brave adults) in a workshop. There is so much of the same stuff around and these guys were something completely different and brilliant to boot. After meeting them for 5 minutes I trusted them to introduce my child to the guests jumping off a balcony They were just so skilled, it wasnt even a question. (Noeleen Cohen)"

.. and this from the young man himself:

"The Parkour guys were fantastic. They worked with the surroundings really well and enhanced the theme of my party that street feel. My friends said that it was new and innovative and made it different because you dont see this sort of thing very often. I couldnt have had anything better and more relevant to what I love doing. Oneday (Joshua Cohen - age 13)"

Festival: White Air Extreme Expo '05

The White Air ISLE OF WIGHT Festival has drawn to an end. TT, along with some of London's finest traceurs performed there. As well as the demonstrations, we also took part in the 'have-a-go' sessions where we taught the basics of Parkour to anyone wanting to learn. Website Developments

We approached Andy Berger who did the Space Chase website to see how he can modify our site. After a few weeks of playing around with different templates and layouts, we decided on a final layout that went live on the 1st of January 2006. A big thank you goes out to him for all his talented hard work and effort.

Advert: Virgin June 2005

This advert was shot in Tunisia, North Africa under some very tough conditions.

However it remains a very special event for all of us, as we got free reign of the Tunis and Sidi Bou Said rooftops where very interesting things happened, such as Luke's shirt being stolen on more than one occasion and the team spending the very early hours of the morning scouting some very dubious (non health and saftey conscious) rooftops.

Luke showed us what he is made of with a very special gap jump that all who saw it, will never forget. It's such a pity that from the camera angle in the final cut it never really got to show how impressive it was.

The event also included taking part in a photoshoot which would eventually see the final images being used on the big roadside advertising billboards: Luke (Green) - DC (Blue) - Rip (Orange)

Short Film: Space Chase

TT was approached by producer, Stephen Follows, before any storyboards had even been drawn up to assist with the making of a British short film which was to include Parkour action.
After many long months of discussions back and forth between producers/directors and the team, the the right story had been developed and the film crew were ready to roll.
A quick 3 full days of intensive filming in a car park near Liverpool street, and Space Chase was in the can ready for editing.
The film did extremely well in the various film festivals and picked up a number of awards which can all be seen by viewing the film's official website: www.spacechase.co.uk
The final result was included on Parkour DVD

White Stuff Store Event

This was one of the best events we had with our sponsor White Air, and it started when Luke, Rip & DC travelled up from London with the White Air van and Blane deciding to drive down from Leicester by himself without much knowledge of the area. Needless to say he got lost and ended up heading to Chester Zoo. (We all reckon he should have boooked in there for the night as he might actually have got a decent night's sleep as opposed to the vaulting over double beds and waking up the neighbours)

The parkour displays went off well in Chester city centre and attracted a lot of attention and certainly got the crowds talking.

So much fun was had by all and just generally a great road trip all round.
